Brainerd Scores 4 First Period Goals, Posts 8-1 Win Over Otter Boys

Kade Stengrim scored a first period hat trick as the Brainerd Warriors opened up a 4-0 lead on the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team Thursday night.  Brainerd made it 5-0 with a goal in the second period and went on to post an 8-1 victory over the Otters.  Brainerd had 38 shots on goal and Fergus Falls managed 29 shots.  Fergus Falls was 0-for-5 on the power play.

 

Stengrim’s first goal came at 5:46 of the first period and was unassisted.  His second was the lone power play goal of the night, coming at 13:50 from Drew Haakonson and Brady JohnsonKale Koop scored at 14:14 with an assist from Martin Timmons and at 16:06 Stengrim completed his hat trick with an assist from Johnson.

The Warriors second period goal came at 7:54 when Koop buried the puck and Kalvin Stengrim earned the assist.

Kade Stengrim and Dylan Wikoff assisted on a goal by Brady Johnson two minutes into the third period and at 4:21 the Warriors made it 7-0 on a Timmons goal from Koop.  At 14:50, Fergus Falls tallied their only goal of the night when Gavin Goepferd scored from Griffin Babolian.  Koop notched his third goal of the game at 16:07, joining Kade Stengrim with a hat trick.  Kalvin Stengrim and Timmons earned assists on the final goal of the night.

Warriors goalie Ryan Gerlich made 28 saves.

Ryan Nelson had 30 stops in the Fergus Falls net.

The Otters (6-15) will host Willmar on Tuesday night and play at River Lakes on Thursday, before returning home to host Sauk Rapids-Rice on Friday.
