Flyers Seal Win Over Otter Boys with Empty Net Goal for 4-2 Victory

The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team was stonewalled by Little Falls goalie Izaak Kalis who stopped 30 of 32 shots as the Flyers defeated the Otters 4-2 at the Community Arena on Tuesday night.  Ryan Nelson came up with 31 saves in the Otter net.  An empty net goal by Ryan Oothoudt with 29 seconds remaining sealed the win for Little Falls.

 

Carter Oothoudt scored the first goal of the night at 4:44 of the first period with Ryan Oothoudt assisting, as the Flyers took a 1-0 lead.

Kellen Stenstrom kept his hot streak going as he tied the game at 5:54 of the second period off an assist from Shane ZierdenMichael Nessler answered 30 seconds later with a goal for the Flyers, making it 2-1, visitors.  Derrick Young and Beau Majerle assisted on the goal.

Joey Welinski scored an unassisted goal at 1:24 of the third for a 3-1 Little Falls lead, but Stenstrom cut the lead to 3-2 at 14:13 with his 20th goal of the season.  It came on the power play and was assisted by Leighton Buckmeier and Jack Welde.  Welinski got the puck to Oothoudt who put it in the empty net for the 4-2 win.

Fergus Falls (6-14) will play at Brainerd on Thursday night.
