4th Ranked Cardinals Hold Otters to 10 Second Half Points in 68-29 Win

The fourth-ranked Alexandria girls’ basketball team provided lots of evidence to prove that they are deserving of that ranking when they held Fergus Falls to 10 second half points and defeated the Otters, 68-29 on Thursday night at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.  The Cardinals hit a total of 10 3-pointers on the night, 5 in each half.

 

Macee Linow connected on 4 shots from beyond the arc and scored a team high 12 points.  Hadley Thul was held to 11 with great defense being played on her by Hattie FullhartAllie Haabala also finished with 11 points.  Alexandria won the rebounding battle, 42-32 and forced 23 Fergus Falls turnovers.

The Otters struggled offensively all night, making only 18% of their shots from the field.  Brynn Sternberg hit three 3’s on the way to a 14 point night, while Hattie Fullhart scored 6 and Julia Hajicek added 5 points, while grabbing a team high 9 rebounds, 5 of them on the offensive boards.  Ruby Ellison and Sternberg secured 8 and 7 rebounds, respectively.

“They make you work so hard with their pressure defense,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer.  “We ran into a buzz saw tonight and they showed why they are a top-ranked team in the state.”

Fergus Falls (10-4, 3-1 CLC) saw their six game winning streak come to an end.  They will face the Moorhead Spuds at 6:30pm Monday in the Roosevelt Gym on Alumni Night.

Alexandria (13-2, 6-0) ran their winning streak to 3 games.  They will play a 1:00pm game Saturday at Hill-Murray.
