Barnesville shot 56% from the field and made 38% of their 3’s on Tuesday night as the Trojans recorded a 76-60 Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball victory over DGF in Barnesville.  The rebounding battle was tight with the Trojans holding a slight 31-30 edge on the boards.  They also had 21 assisted baskets in the game.

“We had a good start to the game which is always important,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “DGF scored the first 3 points of the game, but we would go on a run eventually building a 14-point lead in the first half.  In the second half the Rebels would get to as close to 4, but we would eventually build the lead back to as many as 18. We did a nice job defensively of taking away their cutters and getting to shooters and forcing some tough shots. They also hit some tough shots to get themselves back into the game. I felt we allowed too many second chance opportunities, but the Rebels compete hard.”

Barnesville was led by Gannon Bolgrean with 22 points, 8 assists and 10 rebounds.  Zac Bredman added 13 points and 5 assists, Isaiah Zajac finished with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, had 3 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, and Brady Nosal contributed 10 points.  Ethan Larson had 6 points, 5 rebound, 2 assists and 3 steals.

“Offensively we were really balanced,” said Coach Askegaard. “Isaiah Zajac did a great job of running the floor for some easy baskets and was really tough around the rim. He chipped in on the defensive end with a few blocks and probably had his best all-around game. Gannon Bolgrean was outstanding once again just missing a triple-double. Zac Bredman was efficient from the floor as well.”

The Trojans are now 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference. They head to Hawley on Friday to complete the round of conference games.
