The Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball team lost to Battle Lake 61-56 on Thursday night in Ashby.  Both teams had 26 points at halftime.  “The Battlers were the quicker, stronger, and more aggressive team throughout most of the game,” said Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “Jack Mekalson (28 points) was special tonight.”

"It was great to have Jack Mekalson back on the court tonight," said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "After missing the last 10 games with an injury and only playing 7 minutes in our first game before his injury, it took him a while tonight to get into a rhythm, but he found his groove and finished with 28 points.  You can feel a sense of calm on the court with the whole team when he was out there and we did a much better job of handling pressure and taking care of the ball, only having 8 turnovers on the night.  Defensively we did a great job of communicating and helping each other out which was a point of emphasis for us.  We were able to get stops to finish the game and we able to attack the rim and get easy buckets and finished the game on a 13-2 run."

Braxtyn Cameron joined Mekalson in double digits with 11 points, while adding 8 boards and 3 assists.  Mason Dalluge (9 points, 13 rebounds), Aidan Buehler (8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Maddox Mekalson (5 points, 4 assists) also contributed.

Ashby was led by Easton Nelson who finished the night with 16 points.  Fred Schlotfeld came off the bench and netted 12 points.  Jake Norby also reached double figures with 10.  Traeton Nelson added 9, Kellen Dallen made 6 points and Richie Johnson completed the Arrows scoring with 3.  The Arrows shot 33% (18/54) overall from the field including 38% (8/21) from behind the three-point line.  They also knocked down 75% (12/16) of their free throw attempts.

Ashby's overall record falls to 5-7 and 3-3 in the Little Eight Conference.  They travel to Evansville to face the Brandon Evansville Chargers next Tuesday.

Battle Lake will host Park Christian in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night.
