The Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball team outlasted the Border West Buccaneers 67-56 on Thursday night.  Ashby led 34-21 at halftime.  "The boys played well for much of the first half," stated Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  "The Bucs kept competing and reduced the Ashby lead to 59-54 late in the game before Fred Schlotfeld's big corner three stopped their run.  Our team needs to realize that every possession matters and really concentrate on locking in at both ends of the floor."

Arrow point guard Easton Nelson scored 21 points to lead the way.  Jake Norby was close behind netting 19.  Traeton Nelson finished with 14 points.  Fred Schlotfeld registered 5 points including a big three late in the game with the Arrows clinging to a slim 5 point lead.  Richie Johnson and Kellen Dahlen each contributed 4 points while battling foul trouble throughout the game.  Johnson also grabbed 9 rebounds leading the Ashby effort on the glass.  Norby was next with 8 boards.  The Arrows shot 46% (26/56) from the field including 30% (6/20) from three-point territory.  The Arrows also converted some big free throws down the stretch shooting 60% (9/15) for the game.

The victory halts a three game losing streak and raises the Arrows overall record to 4-5.  They travel to Bertha Friday night to complete an early January back-to-back.

Border West (3-6) will host Tri-State in Graceville on Friday night.
