The Henning boys’ basketball team hit 44% (24-54) of their field goal attempts and 15-of-18 (83%) free throws on Thursday night as they defeated Wadena-Deer Creek by the score of 67-55. “This was a great atmosphere for high school hoops. Our gym was full with fans from both schools. WDC is a very solid team that plays really hard. They made it difficult for us to score consistently,” reported Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades.
Henning trailed 29-26 at the half, but put together a strong second half that saw them outscore the Wolverines, 41-26. The Hornets were led by 28 points from Kale Misegades on 11-of-16 shooting. He also had 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots. Teigan Bjerke added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and Lane Dilly had 10 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals).
“Our guys competed hard and hit some shots in the second half which allowed us to open up a margin,” noted Coach Misegades. “And then we were able to make free throws down the stretch to put the game away.”
Teshe Loer led WDC with 26 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Peyton Church had 11 points, Kobe Snyder added 10 and Nate Peterson had 10 rebounds. The Wolverines shot 40% from the field and hit 8-of-19 (42%) from 3-point land.
Henning (8-2) will host Staples-Motley in a 1:30pm start on Saturday.
Wadena-Deer Creek (5-3) had their 5 game winning streak stopped by the Hornets. They will host Menahga in their next game on Tuesday, January 9.
