River Lakes had a 33-19 advantage in shots on goal Tuesday night as the Stars posted a 6-1 win over the Otters at the Fergus Falls Community Arena. River Lakes made the Otters pay for their penalties as they scored on 3-of-4 power play opportunities, starting with the first goal of the night. Brandon Carlson scored from Blake Schultz for a 1-0 River Lakes lead after one period.
Second period goals from Anthony Fink, assisted by Jace Griffin, and Eric Paulson, from Tyson Bruntlett, gave the Stars a 2-0 lead. Fergus Falls notched a power play goal from Kellen Stenstrom at 6:36 of the second, assisted by Jack Welde and Shane Zierden.
A power play goal by Parker Welz was assisted by Schultz and Fink at 3:35 of the third period. At 5:48, Welz scored an even strength goal, setup by Matthew Dotzler, and at 10:17, Griffin added another power play goal at 10:17 with assists from Dotzler and Welz.
Fergus Falls (1-5) will play at Willmar on Thursday.
