Otter Girls Suffer Overtime Defeat in Brainerd

It took overtime on Thursday night to decide the Central Lakes girls’ hockey contest between Fergus Falls and Brainerd/Little Falls.  Each team scored a goal in the second period. The only other goal that was scored came at 5:54 of overtime, giving the Warriors a 2-1 victory.  The loss snapped a 3 game Otter winning streak.

 

 

Averie Tonneson scored at 15:04 of the second period, giving the Otters a 1-0 lead.  Her goal was assisted by Maggie Greenagel and Lydia Johnson.  At 15:45 the Flying Warriors tied the game on a goal by Levi LeMieur, assisted by Peyton LeMieur.

The game winner was scored by Lilly DeRosier at 5:54 of overtime.  Brianna Finnegan had the assist. 

Ana Jyrkas stopped 18 of the 20 shots she faced in the Otter net, while Ericah Folden came up with 17.

“First time I have been content with a loss in a long time,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “The girls’ effort was the best of the year. We needed a performance like this against a great team to gauge our true compete level.  Now we know that we are capable of playing at the level needed.  Very proud of the effort … execution comes next.”

The Otters (5-4-1) will play at St. Cloud on Tuesday and will host Willmar on Thursday.
