The Rothsay boys’ basketball team hosted Battle Lake in a Little Eight Conference contest on Tuesday night.  The Tigers were victorious by the score of 68-37, improving their season record to 2-2.  Matthew Danielson scored 35 points and came up with 5 steals, while Karson Jenson had 20 points and 7 assists.  Landon Messerschmitt grabbed 12 rebounds.

Rothsay hit 50% (26-52) of their field goal attempts and made 56% (14-25) of their treys.  The Tigers also distributed 19 assists on their 26 made baskets and held a 34-30 rebounding edge.

Battle Lake made just 29.4% (15-51) of their shots and only 3-of-21 (14.3%) from 3-point range.

Maddox Mekalson (16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 deflections) and Braxtyn Cameron (12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists) led the Battlers.  Aidan Buehler dished out 4 assists and Aidan Heggem secured 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

"We ran into a hot shooting Rothsay team tonight,” commented Head Coach Brady Cameron of Battle Lake.  “They made 9 of 12 3's and shot 55% from the floor in the 1st half and we couldn't recover.   We turned the ball over too much in the 1st half as well giving up 21 points off turnovers.  In the 2nd half we held them to a lower shooting percentage and quit turning the ball over and limited them to 23 points in the half.  For us to have a chance to win each and every night we need to give a lot better effort on defense than we did tonight.  Right now we are struggling to score the ball so we need to get stops on the defensive end if we want to win games."

Battle Lake will host Parkers Prairie in a Little Eight Conference game on Thursday.

Rothsay will play at Tri-State on Thursday night.
