Sauk Rapids-Rice Wins Overtime Thriller from Otter Boys

Sauk Rapids-Rice and Fergus Falls played overtime in a Central Lakes Conference boys’ hockey matchup on Tuesday night with the Storm scoring the game winner 6:31 into the extra period to claim a 5-4 victory over the Otters.  Bryden Prelvitz capitalized on an Otter turnover and scored unassisted to end the game with just 1:29 remaining in OT. 

The Storm had the only goal of the opening period when Teagan Dodge buried the puck off an assist from Nick Anderson at 16:12.

Fergus Falls came alive in the second period, scoring three straight goals to build a 3-1 lead.  Aiden Schake notched the tying goal from Shane Zierden at 1:50 and Kellen Stenstrom gave the Otters a 2-1 lead with an unassisted tally at the 3 minute mark of the period.  Zierden’s goal, assisted by Michael Schmidt, gave the Otters a 3-1 advantage at 6:46.  Sauk Rapids-Rice answered with 3 goals of their own to regain a one goal lead at 4-3 after the second period.  Anderson scored from Dodge, Vince Murn then scored, again from Dodge, and Hunter Behling closed out the period with a goal from Michael Fuecker and Jackson Dhein

Fergus Falls forced overtime on Stenstrom’s second goal of the night with assists from Gavin Goepferd and Schmidt.

Ryan Nelson stopped 40 shots in the Otter net and Zander Parker came up with 31 saves for the Storm.

The Otters (1-3) will host Brainerd on Thursday night.
