A good game in Hawley was highlighted by a record breaking performance by Willow Thiel. Coming into the game needing 14 points to break Katrina Moenkedick’s Career Scoring Record for Perham Girls Basketball, Willow scored early and often on offensive rebounds and drives. Before halftime she drove baseline and scored her 14th point to break the record. The game was stopped and Willow was recognized by the Hawley crowd with a standing ovation by fans from each side.  That start set the tone for the night and the Yellowjackets went on to post a 59-29 victory.

Besides the record, the story of the night was definitely defense and rebounding. Holding Hawley leading scorer Izzy Steer to just one made field goal, Cora Grismer and Kaia Starzl did a great job at the point of attack. When shots went up we also did a great job of hitting the glass, outrebounding Hawley 44-26, scoring a lot of points off of second chances.

Willow Thiel led the Jackets with 28 points and 14 rebounds. No other player in the game reached double figures, in fact Willow made 10 shots compared to Hawley ‘s 9 as she equaled their score.  Perham had 13 steals and used their defense to really get their offense going.

Ryleigh Mickelson had 7 rebounds and 3 steals to really influence the game.
