The Breckenridge Cowboys held a slim 23-22 halftime lead over Border West on Tuesday night. The second half proved to be a back-and-forth battle with Breckenridge leading by 3 points late. Nolan Wilson hit a 3 for the Bucs, sending the game to overtime. Cooper Roberts hit 4 clutch free throws to seal the game for the Cowboys, 66-59.
Leaders for the Cowboys were Aidan Sanchez (22 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists), Jacob Kunkel (14 points, 5 rebounds), Roberts (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Beau Beyer (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals).
Breckenridge made 47% (23-49) of their field goal attempts and connected on 46% (14-24) of their 3-pointers. The Cowboys also won the battle of the boards, 42-33.
Border West shot 36% (22-61) in the game and struggled from beyond the arc, making only 4-of-24 (16.7%). Leaders for the Buccaneers were Wilson (22 points, 2 assists), Jack Siegel (13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) and Holden Rinke (10 points). Tayton Schmidt had a team high 8 rebounds and added 3 steals. Brayden Andrews came up with 4 steals.
Breckenridge (2-2) will host Barnesville on Thursday night and will play Underwood at 11:30am Saturday at Concordia College in Moorhead.
Border West (2-2) is at Parkers Prairie next Tuesday.
