Junior point guard Easton Nelson of the Ashby boys’ basketball team scored 25 of his game high 34 points in the second half to spark a comeback victory for the Arrows, who defeated the Underwood Rockets by the score of 65-61.  Ashby shot 47% (22/46) from the field and 60% (14/20) from the free throw line.

“Easton scored by converting three’s, nailing contested finishes as the rim, and making 8 out of 8 attempts at the free throw line,” said Head Coach John Holsten.

Kellen Dahlen was also in double figures with 11 points.  Dahlen added 5 rebounds.  Richie Johnson had 7 points, 5 rebounds and a pair of steals and Jake Norby contributed 6 points and 3 boards.

“Down 24-19 at half, we were able to build an 11 point lead during the second half,” reported Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “We got complacent, and weren’t able to put them away.  Ashby did a great job of fighting back, and hitting some huge shots, and grabbing an offensive rebound on a free throw late in the game that allowed them to put it away.  Our defense was much improved tonight, however, we lost the rebounding battle 30-24, which we can’t do.”

Drew Evavold had 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 deflections to lead the Rockets.  Kaleb Hammes contributed 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Ashby (2-2) will host the Benson Braves on Thursday night.

Underwood (0-2) will play Breckenridge at 11:30am Saturday at Concordia College in Moorhead.

Underwood stats will be added to this story once they are received.
