The M State Men’s Basketball team had a tremendous shooting day in Grand Rapids on Saturday, hitting 65.3% (32-49) of their field goal attempts, making 41.7% (5-12) of their 3’s, and connecting on 11-of-13 (84.6%) free throw attempts. The result was an 80-70 road win over Minnesota North College-Itasca and a weekend sweep on their northern road trip.
Mikele Kambalo (26 points, 11-of-17 FG) and Mason Muir (24 points, 7-of-10 FG) provided a potent one-two punch for the Spartans. They were joined in double digits by Khamani Steckler with 10 points. Steckler also had a team high 8 rebounds as the Spartans won the battle of the boards 31-17.
Itasca shot 46.8% (29-62) from the field. They were led by Johnnie Ambrose with 14 points. Elijah Timmons and Takieto Palmer added 10 points apiece.
M State (6-3) will play in the CLC Classic on Friday and Saturday in Brainerd.
