The M State women’s basketball team bounced back strong on Saturday afternoon after a loss to Northland Community College on Friday night, beating Minnesota North College-Itasca by the score of 76-38. M State led 36-18 at the half and outscored the Vikings 27-3 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 63-21 after three. The lady Spartans shot 45.7% (32-70) from the field, had only 4 turnovers on the day and won the rebounding battle 37-29.
Jayna Gronewold led M State with a double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds, 8 offensive rebounds). She was joined in double digits by Maddie Ballweg with 17 points, Mo Bugbee with 13 and Itzel Salazar with 10. Ballweg and Bugbee added 5 and 3 steals, respectively, as the Spartans recorded 12 steals as a team. Mia Blaskowski contributed 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Brooke Meyer (15 points, 11 rebounds) led Minnesota North College-Itasca. Cass Dahn and Hannah Gullickson added 8 and 7 points, respectively.
M State (4-3) will travel to Brainerd for the Central Lakes College Winter Classic, playing Central Lakes on Friday night and Minnesota North College-Rainy River on Saturday afternoon.
