The Perham girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 13-0 lead on Friday night as they recorded a 76-35 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers at the HIVE in Perham. After Park Rapids got a couple of buckets to drop to make the score 18-9, the Yellowjackets went on a 27-3 run to put the game out of reach.

Cora Grismer and Willow Thiel led the offensive charge, but once again there were great contributions by so many,” noted Head Coach TJ Super of Perham. “Seniors Ryleigh Mickelson and Kaia Starzl each had 5 steals to really crank up the defense, which led to many fast break buckets. The ball movement all night was a thing of beauty; we pride ourselves on making the extra pass and tonight we did it so often it was really fun to watch.”

Thiel continued her tear that she's been on, she was 14-16 shooting and ended the night with 29 points. Over the last two games she is 29-36 with 67 points and for the season she's averaging over 28 points per game. Cora Grismer had a great night with 15 points and was once again a stopper on defense, while Kennedy Pilgrim added 8 points and great all around play. Kaia Anderson had a rare off night shooting but held Park Rapids leading scorer Gabi Shepersky to 4 points.

“Willow, Cora, and Ryleigh sat the last 11 minutes of the game and all starters were on the bench for the last 9 minutes of the game,” added Coach Super. “The bench girls played well, keeping up the intensity and playing hard.”

The Yellowjackets (4-1) travel to Hawley on Tuesday for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference matchup with the Nuggets.  They return to the HIVE for another HOL game on Thursday with Barnesville.
