The M State Mens’ Basketball team got off to a great start on Friday night in Thief River Falls as they jumped to a 38-29 halftime lead on the Northland Pioneers. The Spartans went on to defeat the Pioneers, 80-60. Mason Muir had a big night, scoring 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. He added 5 rebounds, 6 assists and a pair of steals.
Mikele Kambalo finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, Diamond McGill had 10 points off the bench and Khamani Steckler contributed 8 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Steckler also had two blocked shots. M State shot 49.2% (30-61) and hit 17-of-20 free throws.
Northland was led by Tavon Petteway and Malic Osei-Tutu with 11 points each. Petteway and Randy Harris had 7 rebounds apiece, Carey Davis added 9 points off the bench and Osei-Tutu led the team with 3 assists and 2 steals.
M State (5-3) will play a 3:00pm game in Grand Rapids on Saturday against Minnesota North College-Itasca.
