The Northland lady Pioneers led from wire-to-wire on Friday night as they recorded an 85-40 victory over M State in Thief River Falls. Northland shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field and made 45.2% (14-31) of their 3’s. They also held a commanding 39-23 advantage on the boards and had five players score in double figures.
Emma Osborn led the way for Northland with 16 points. Tiyana Schwinghammer (15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks), Josie Iverson (14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assist, 2 steals, 1 block) and Riley Mooney (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 block) were all in double digits. Shavonda Bender added 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and one steal.
M State made only 29.2% (14-48) of their shots and 28.6% (4-14) of their 3’s. Mo Bugbee led the lady Spartans with 14 points. Itzel Salazar and Madi Foss added 8 points each. Kiera Cox had a team high 6 rebounds and Maddie Ballweg dished out 3 assists.
M State (3-3) will play Minnesota North College-Itasca in Grand Rapids on Saturday at 1:00pm.
