Fergus Falls struggled shooting the ball on Friday night and the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres took advantage of that fact, recording a 51-43 win over the Otters. Fergus Falls made only 19% (10-53) of their field goal attempts and hit just 21% (5-24) from 3-point range. Sartell shot 34% on the night as they improved to 4-1 on the season. The Sabres held a slim 32-29 edge on the boards.
Kaia Jake and Kennedy Jake led Sartell with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Greta Crandall had 11 points, including a trio of 3’s.
As cold as the Otters were from the field, they were excellent on the free throw line, hitting 16-of-19. Brynn Sternberg registered a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds), Ruby Ellison had 7 points and 6 rebounds, and Hattie Fullhart also had 7 points. Julia Hajicek finished with 6 points.
“We battled really hard tonight and I was proud of our effort,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer. “If we do that consistently I believe it will translate into success on the court. We need to find ways to get the ball in the basket.”
Fergus Falls (1-2) has a quick turn-around as they travel to Bemidji for a 2:00pm tip-off on Saturday.
