The Border West Buccaneers built a 38-23 halftime lead and then held off the Underwood Rockets in the second half as they rallied to within 12 points before pulling away for a 67-55 win over the Rockets.

“Fun Game for us tonight,” said Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos.  “Things are starting to come together, even a little faster than expected. I think we are finding an identity in being a big physical defensive and tough rebounding team. That definitely got us the win again tonight. We were really solid early on in the game building a quick 10 point lead with smooth offense and stout defense. We were able to maintain that lead the rest of the game. We can continue to take care of the ball a little better and that will help close games out cleaner at the end of the ballgame.”

Border West shot 43.5% from the field and held Underwood to 33.9% shooting.  The Buccaneers held a 52-30 advantage on the boards.  They were led by Holden Rinke with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Nolan Wilson and Kyle Kremer added 15 points apiece.  Jack Siegel had 6 points and 8 rebounds, and Tayton Schmidt added 4 points and 10 rebounds in just 11 minutes on the court.

Drew Evavold led Underwood with 17 points and Hudson Risbrudt added 11.  Evan Lundgren chipped in with 9 points for the Rockets.

"It was tough first game for us," stated Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck. "Border West is big and plays physical. We didn't fight nearly hard enough for positioning on defense, which allowed them to crash the offensive boards with a lot of success. We will never be the biggest team in any of our games this year, so this needs to be a focus of ours. We shot much better in the second half, but just couldn’t get the stops we needed to cut into their lead. We will learn from this game, and make the adjustments necessary to be successful moving forward."

Border West now has a 2-1 record.  They will play again on Tuesday at Breckenridge.

Underwood (0-1) has their home opener with Ashby on Tuesday.
