Henning led 37-21 at the half Tuesday night and the Hornets were able to maintain that lead throughout the second half for a 65-47 win over the Rothsay Tigers in Rothsay.  The Hornets shot 45% (25-55) from the field and assisted on 15 of their 25 made baskets.  They also won the battle of the boards, 33-22.

“Always great to get a win in the first contest of the season,” commented Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades.  “We were not exactly sure what to expect as Rothsay has a brand new coaching staff led by Coach Jacobson. We came away very impressed with how well they played. They were disciplined, organized, and changed defenses which kept us a bit off balance. Rothsay is going to win their share of games in 23-24. They have some positive things going.”

Teigan Bjerke scored a game high 29 points and Kale Misegades joined him in double digits with 21 points.  Misegades also had a team high 7 assists and 5 steals, while Bjerke added a pair of assists.  Lane Dilly was the top rebounder with 9 and Dawson Misegades had 8 boards.

“Our guys played hard, but we need to find a way to develop some depth and keep ourselves out of foul trouble,” added Coach Misegades.  “We’re excited for the win, but also looking forward to improving some things on both ends of the floor as we move ahead.”

Leaders for Rothsay were Karson Jensen (18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals), Preston Curtis (9 points), Matthew Danielson (7 points, 4 assists), Landon Messerschmidt (6 points, 4 rebounds) and Peyton Kadel (5 points, 4 rebounds). The Tigers shot 39% (18-46) from the field.

Rothsay will open their Little Eight Conference season on Friday night at Ashby.

Henning travels to Menahga on Thursday.
