Breckenridge held Battle Lake to just 15 first half points as they held a 29-15 advantage at the break.  The Cowboys were able to maintain that lead throughout the second half, finishing with a 59-44 victory over the Battlers.  “The first half defense was a big key for us, being able to get an early lead against a scrappy Battle Lake team,” acknowledged Breckenridge Head Coach Jordan Christensen.  “Holding them to 15 in the first half allowed us a cushion to withstand their run in the second half.”

Battle Lake cut the Cowboys lead to 5 midway through the second half behind Braxtyn Cameron’s 20 points, but Breckenridge responded with big plays down the stretch from Aidan Sanchez, Beau Beyer and Jacob Kunkel.

Sanchez (19 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Kunkel (13 points, 7 rebounds), Beyer (13 points), Kaleb Albertson (8 points, 3 rebounds), Logan Church (4 points, 4 steals), Cooper Roberts (3 points, 4 rebounds) and CJ Bernard (4 assists) were the statistical leaders for the Cowboys.

Braxtyn Cameron led Battle Lake with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocked shots.  Max Mekalson added 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a pair of blocks and Aidan Heggem secured a team high 11 rebounds while adding 3 steals, 2 blocks and 4 points.  Quinn Condiff chipped in with 8 points and 3 boards.

"I am proud of the effort our guys put forth tonight, the wins will come as these young guys gain experience and they are getting a lot of it right now,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  “We struggled to score in the 1st half only putting up 15 points but we found our rhythm in the 2nd half on both ends and cut the lead to 5 late in the half.  We are shorthanded and played tonight's game without any of our seniors but we are hoping we can get Aidan Buehler back for Thursday night.  We want to thank the Breckenridge community for their kindness and for donating the proceeds from the "Split the Pot" raffle tonight to the Roisum family."

Breckenridge (1-1) has their Heart O’ Lakes Conference opener at Frazee on Friday.

Battle Lake (0-2) will host Browerville in another non-conference contest on Thursday night.
