The girls’ basketball season got off to a dramatic start for the Brandon-Evansville Chargers on Tuesday night as they survived an overtime game with Upsala, posting a 66-61 victory.  They followed that win with a 50-28 victory over Melrose on Thursday night.

The game started out slow for both teams on Tuesday.  Upsala made the first run to take a 6 point lead, but B-E countered with a run to end the half tied at 26.  Brandon-Evansville got rolling through the second half, but foul trouble for some key players allowed Upsala to get back into the game.  The last two minutes went back-and-forth until the final horn sounded and the teams were tied at 57-57.  Brandon-Evansville scored the first basket of overtime and never looked back as they went on to win by five points.  Leading scorers were Kylee Dingwall with 22, Haddy Baune with 15 and Drea Fernholz with 12.  Kylee, Haddy and Taylor Dingwall had 7 rebounds each.  Skylar Bitzan and Madison Anderson sparked the defensive effort for the Chargers.

On Thursday night against Melrose, things again started out slowly for B-E, but the defense carried them to a 22-14 halftime lead.  Coming out of halftime the Chargers offense caught fire and the defense continued to hold the Dutchmen down.  Leading scorers were Kylee Dingwall and Mia Elmer with 13 points apiece.  All 8 varsity players got on the scoreboard.

Brandon-Evansville will host Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night in their Little Eight Conference opener.
