Replacing graduating seniors Tyson Misegades, Mason Hammer, Carter Dilly and Riley Bode will be a challenge, but as the Henning Hornets retool after a tremendous 28-2 season that saw them finish as Park Region Conference champions (14-0), Sub-Section 6A North Champions, and Section 6A Runners-up, they do so with a good mix of returning starters and promising newcomers.

“We are excited to get another season underway,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades, starting his 19th season.  “Although we graduated three starters and our top two scorers, we feel like we have some guys ready to step into those roles.  Our depth will be tested again, as with many Class A schools, but we have some top-end guys who are experienced and know how to play the game.”

The two returning starters are Lane Dilly (SR, Forward, Captain) and Kale Misegades (SO, Point Guard, Captain).  Other returning letter winners include Logan Kostelecky (JR, Forward), Dawson Misegades (JR, Center) and Noah Umland (JR, Guard).

Coach Misegades will be looking to juniors Teigan Bjerke (Guard) and Mason Samuelson (Guard), and sophomores Ryan Despard (Forward), Dawson Bushman (Guard) and Andrew Suchy (Center) to compete for varsity minutes.

“Kale and Lane will be expected to lead this group, but several other guys are excited for their opportunity and deserving of a chance to play significant minutes,” said Coach Misegades.  “Although we don’t have any giants, we have good size across the board as most of our guards are 6’2 or 6’3.  Ironically, our smallest guy is Lane Dilly, who will likely lead the team in rebounding once again and plays much bigger than his height.  Our starting group is skilled, smart, and athletic.  As always, our focus begins on the defensive end of the floor.  If we want to reach our goals, we’ll need to compete at a high level defensively.”

Mark Oscarson and Ryan Emter will once again serve as assistant coaches.

Misegades sees Hillcrest, Frazee, Battle Lake, Ada-Borup West, Underwood, BBE, and West Central Area as the top teams in Section 6A.  Wadena-Deer Creek, Bertha-Hewitt and Pillager are the top challengers in the Park Region Conference.

“Section 6A is always a grind and one of the top sections in Class A, but it got a whole lot tougher with the additions of Frazee, West Central Area and Ada-Borup West,” said Coach Misegades.
