The Wadena-Deer Creek boys’ basketball team did some things last season that haven’t been done in a long time in their program.  The Wolverines won 20 games, went 12-2 in the Park Region Conference, hosted a playoff game for only the second time in more than a decade and recorded a 7-game winning streak in January that included 5 road wins and 3 overtime victories.
WDC lost Isaac Hamann and Phillip Ross to graduation, but return a high number of seniors and juniors with extensive varsity court time.

“We are excited for this season to arrive,” commented Head Coach Kevin Tumberg, now in his eighth season.  “The boys have put in a ton of time over the off season to improve on an already impressive season last year.  We have a lot of experience all across the board with our team.  There aren’t any players that will see key minutes that don’t have a full season under their belts already.  We have some very skilled, athletic players that also have a high basketball IQ that will make this team fun to watch!”

Returning letter winners include seniors Teshe Loer (Guard), Peyton Church (Guard), Lyrik Haug (Guard), Nathan Peterson (Forward), D’Andre Hammond (Guard), Simon Kreklau (Forward) and Jaxson Brown (Forward), and juniors Kobe Snyder (Guard) and Connor Duke (Guard).

Alex Brockpahler, Ryan Elfering and Luke Weniger will serve as assistants to Tumberg.

Tumberg predicts Pelican Rapids, Hawley and Barnesville will be the top teams in Section 8AA, with Henning and Pillager being the front runners in the Park Region Conference.
