The Border West Buccaneers set a new standard for excellence in their boys’ basketball program last season, finishing with a 26-4 record, which included a perfect 16-0 Little Eight Conference mark and a 23 game winning streak on the way to a state tournament appearance.  Losing Dylan Bainbridge, Clint Determan, Cole Gilsdorf and Andrew Walker to graduation will be difficult to overcome, however, opportunity exists for other players to step up and fill their spots.

“We are very excited for the season,” commented sixth-year head coach Jordon Roos.  “It’s going to be a very different team, but that welcomes a new challenge to figure out what we need to do to have success.  We are going to have good size, which I am hoping will lead to a tough defense.  I also think we will have a good mix of drivers and shooters.  I’d say our biggest weakness will be just the lack of experience at the varsity level.”

The Bucs return juniors Holden Rinke (Guard) and Kyle Kremer (Forward).  Roos is looking to seniors Nolan Wilson (Guard), Jack Siegel (Center) and Gunnar Hoffman (Forward) and junior Brayden Andrews (Guard) to step into varsity roles.

“It think Section 6A will be very competitive with a lot of teams close to the top,” said Roos.  “I see Underwood, Battle Lake and Hillcrest as the top teams in the Little Eight Conference.”

Derek Guse (JV), Taylor Hento (C Team), Ben Blees (Junior High) and Justin Sagerhorn (Junior High) will serve as assistants in the program.
