The Underwood boys’ basketball team finished last season with an 11-16 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Little Eight Conference.  They lost Cole Peterson and Jayden Harig to graduation, but third-year head coach Kellen Shebeck has a number of letter winners with extensive varsity experience returning for the 2023-2024 season.

“We return a lot of depth, primarily with our ball handling and scoring,” noted Coach Shebeck.  “We will not be a big team, but we do have a lot of players that now have 2 years of significant varsity experience.  We will rely on the depth, athleticism and experience in order for us to take another step forward for our program.”

Returners include seniors Gavin Pausch (Guard, 3.4 ppg, 3 rebs), Noah Link (Forward, 5.9 ppg, 1.7 rpg), juniors Kaleb Hammes (Point Guard, 6 ppg, 3.3 rebs, 2.3 assists), Owen Harig (Guard, 3.8 ppg, 1.8 assists), Hudson Risbrudt (Forward, 9.4 ppg, 2.1 rebs, 1.3 assists) and Evan Lundgren (Guard, 7.1 ppg, 2.7 rebs, 1.8 assists), and sophomore Drew Evavold (Forward, 14.3 ppg, 6.1 rebs, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals).  Junior Levi Wilson (Guard) is also expected to earn varsity playing time.  Pausch, Link and Harig will serve as team captains.

Drew Pearson, Aaron Grove and Jake Risbrudt will assist Shebeck.

“Section 6A is very deep from top to bottom,” added Shebeck.  “There are a number of teams capable of coming out on top with West Central Area, Ada-Borup, Henning, BBE, Battle Lake and Hillcrest heading up the list.  In the Little Eight, Hillcrest and Battle Lake are my favorites.”
