Landon Blaufuss, Alex Sanchez (Concordia – Football), Daymon Smith, and Cam Nieto (Crookston – Baseball) were lost to graduation following the 2022-2023 season, but the Breckenridge boys’ basketball team returns two starters and several other letter winners with varsity experience as they embark on year two under Head Coach Jordan Christensen.  Christensen will be assisted by Connor Yaggie, Jack Hiedeman and Jonah Christensen.

“We will be fairly long and athletic,” said Coach Christensen.  “Our kids have put a lot of time in the weight room and hopefully that will show this year.  Defensively, with the shot clock, we should be able to force teams into tough shots with our length.  Offensively, we will crash the glass and put an emphasis on offensive rebounding.”

Senior Jacob Kunkel (Forward) and sophomore Jaxson Riggs (Forward) are the two returning starters.  Letter winners returning include seniors Beau Beyer (Forward), CJ Bernard (Guard) and Colin Suko (Post), juniors Kaleb Albertson (Forward) and Logan Church (Guard), and freshman Aidan Sanchez (Guard).  Sophomore Cooper Roberts (Forward) is also expected to earn varsity minutes.

“Ball handling will be a weakness for us this season,” continued Coach Christensen.  “We have a lot of new faces in our backcourt.  Over the summer and last season we struggled staying in front of our man on defense.  That is one area we will be working hard to correct.  Our overall lack of experience will cause some growing pains to start the season.”

Christensen says Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, West Central Area, Battle Lake, Hillcrest and Henning will be the favorites in Section 6A, while Pelican Rapids, Hawley and Barnesville are the teams to beat in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
