Lady Cards Defeat Brainerd/Little Falls on Overtime Goal by Doherty

The Alexandria girls’ hockey team scored the equalizer with just 11 seconds remaining in the third period, forcing overtime against Brainerd/Little Falls on Tuesday night.  The Cardinals, who had 29 shots on goal, compared to 14 for Brainerd/Little Falls, got the game winner 5:15 into the extra period, taking a 2-1 victory in Brainerd.

 

The home team struck first when Peyton LeMieur scored an unassisted goal at 14:47 of the second period.

Kennedy Ellingson tied the game at 16:49 of the third with an assist from Candace Ellingson.

The game winner came from Julia Doherty with Kennedy Ellingson assisting.

Goalie Rachael Mohr stopped 13 of 14 shots on goal in the Alexandria net.

Alexandria (4-2) will host Moorhead on Friday at the Runestone Arena.
