The West Central Area Knights are back in Section 6A this year after playing the last two seasons in Class AA. The Knights return a veteran line-up featuring returning starters Nas Dotts, Mitch Dewey, Bryce Kjesbo and Ben Bye. Also returning, after missing most of the season last year due to injury, is Cam Anderson, who was an All-Conference player as a sophomore in 2021-22.  Another impact player earning a lot of varsity minutes last year is Sam Hanson, who can play any position on the floor.  Dotts, Dewey, Kjesbo, and Anderson are seniors while Bye and Hanson are juniors.

Other players that the coaching staff is looking at to make an impact on the varsity are seniors Dane Anderson and Brady Lindquist; juniors Cash Nelson, Owen Sanstead and Simon Moritz; and sophomore Marshall Dewey.

The Knights line-up will lack size playing in the West Central Conference with teams such as Melrose, Morris, Sauk Centre, BOLD, Montevideo, Minnewaska and Benson feature very big line-ups.   The Knights will have to emphasize rebounding, physical play and use their defense to be successful.

“We may be one of the smallest teams in Minnesota, but we have kids with skills, experience, quickness, and intelligence. We feel if we focus on rebounding and physicality; and if we can stay healthy, we will be able to play a high level of basketball this year, said Knights Coach Kraig Hunter.

The Knights will play a schedule that will make them battle-tested come playoff time. They will compete mostly in the Class AA West Central Conference. They will play a few other very good AA schools, such as Pelican Rapids, Park Rapids, Staples-Motley and Wadena-Deer Creek, as well as several of the Section 6A favorites such as Hillcrest, Battle Lake and Hancock.

Hunter feels, in addition to those three, that BBE, Ada-Borup and Henning will be the other top contenders in 6A.  Sauk Centre is the favorite in the West Central Conference returning everyone but one senior including 2,000 point scorer Jay Nuebert

Hunter will be assisted by Brian Kjesbo, Jon Nelson, and Brad Westrom.
