The 2022-2023 season was a memorable one for the Rothsay girls’ basketball team as their 12 wins was the most registered by a Tigers’ team since 1999.  Rothsay finished in the top half of the Little Eight Conference after posting a 7-10 conference mark.  Head Coach Anita Heier is in her ninth season and will be assisted by Sydney Hovland and Val Schultz.  Replacing Kenadi Carlsrud (All-Conference) and Madison Tillman in the post will be a top priority.

“We are focusing on playing team defense and rebounding this year,” said Heier.  “We hope to use our quickness and depth to play a quicker style of basketball.  If we can accomplish that, I think we can finish in the top half of the conference standings again.”

Senior Elli Meyer (Guard) and sophomores Savannah Sullivan (Guard, All-Conference), Bethany Danielson (Guard) and McKenzie Tillman (Guard) return with extensive varsity experience.  Key newcomers include senior Kinsey Heier (Post), juniors Lisa Kjelgaard (Guard) and Brooklyn Weiers (Forward), and sophomore Mia Rivers (Guard).

Captains will be Meyer and Heier.  “Elli brings a lot of experience on the court,” said Coach Heier.  “She leads by example with her physical play and aggressive defense.  Kinsey brings a lot of energy.  She plays physical in the post and she rebounds well.”

Coach Heir says Hancock and Underwood are the teams to beat in the Little Eight Conference and in Section 6A.
