The Alexandria girls’ hockey team broke open a close game with 3 straight third period goals and went on to post a 5-2 victory over Fergus Falls on Tuesday night.  The lady Cards had 26 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Otters.

Tayler Treat scored from Morgan Aure six minutes into the game and the 1-0 lead stood at the end of the first period.

Kylie Lattimer’s unassisted tally at 3:54 of the second period gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead, however, Hannah Johnson scored the Otters first goal of the night at 8:58, with an assist going to Averie Tonneson.

The Cardinals scored a pair of goals 11 seconds apart early in the third period to create some separation.  Jada Waldorf scored at 4:30 from Lattimer and Lillian Dutton put the puck in the back of the net eleven seconds later with assists from Kennedy Ellingson and Maya Wagner.  Wagner also assisted on a goal by Skylar Thorson at 8:34 as Alexandria opened up a 5-1 lead.  The Otters made the final score 5-2 on Maggie Greenagel’s unassisted tally at 8:59.

“Too many small mistakes turned into goals for Alex,” said Fergus Falls head coach Tim Lill.  “I felt we battled hard against a well-coached and gritty team.  I hadn’t see that yet this year.  Effort, yes.  Execution, nope.  We will be better.”

Fergus Falls (1-2-1) will play at Thief River Falls on Friday night and will face Crookston at TRF on Saturday morning.
