Fergus Falls Quality Circuits Squirt A Hockey Team Starts Strong

The Fergus Falls Quality Circuits Squirt A hockey team opened up their season at home this past Saturday when they faced off against the Fargo Freeze Black. The second and final game of the weekend for the Otters was Sunday, in Wadena.

 

At the 11:33 mark of the first period of game one, Alex Nelson found the back of the net to put the Otters out front early, 1-0.  Nelson was assisted by Haakon Kantrud.  Halfway through the period, Nelson extended the Otters lead to 2-0 as he scored, unassisted.  With under a minute left in the first period, Sam Zimney for the Fargo Freeze, cut the Otters lead in half to make it 2-1.  Period number two consisted of only one goal.  That goal was a shorthanded goal by Austin Lipp, as he scored unassisted.  Lipps’ goal gave the Otters a 3-1 lead entering the third and final period.  Both teams doubled their goal total in the final 12 minutes.  The Freeze scored first as Wyatt Ettish scored on a power play goal, cutting the Otters lead to 3-2.  The Otters answered back with three consecutive goals.  Nelson scored his third goal of the game, unassisted, to make it a two goal lead once again.  Koyer Arneson and Nelson each scored one time in the final three minutes of the game.  Arneson assisted Nelson on the last goal. Bodie Carlson was in net.  Nelson scored four of the Otters six goals as they beat the Freeze, 6-4.

On Sunday, the Otters scored early and often as they won by a final score of 17-1. After period number one the Otters had a 9-0 lead. Seven different Otters scored in the first period. In period number two the Otters lit the lamp five more times as they took a 14-1 lead going into the final fifteen minutes. Three more goals were scored in the third period by the Otters to cap off a dominating performance. Scoring for the Otters were; Nelson (5), Bodie Carlson (3), Hayes Johnston (2), Trig Shol (2), Madden Christenson (2), Kantrud (1), Lipp (1), and Arneson (1). Of the seventeen goals scored, seven were unassisted, the remaining goals were assisted by; Carlson (2), Johnston (2), Shol (1), Arneson (1), Christenson (1), Nelson (1) and Lipp (1).  Colt Carson was in net for the Otters.

The Otters are coached by Shawn Carlson and Josh Shol. The Squirt A team will compete this Saturday in Alexandria and at home on Sunday against Brainerd.
