Knights Fall in Consolation Championship Match

The Ely Wolves controlled the net and played exceptional defense on Saturday as they captured the Class A Consolation Championship with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-21) victory over the West Central Area Knights at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  Ely ends the season with a 27-6 record, while WCA finishes 24-10.

 

The Wolves were led by Hannah Penke (17 kills, 22 digs, 4 blocks, 9/10 serving, 1 ace), Clare Thomas (10 kills, 2 blocks, 13 digs, 14/16 serving, 1 ace), Lilli Rechichi (9 kills, 8 digs, 4 blocks), Charlotte Hegman (5 kills, 13/14 serving, 12 digs), Sarah Visser (34 set assists, 16/16 serving, 1 ace, 11 digs).

Leaders for West Central Area were Mya Foslien (11 kills, 13 digs, 1 block), Madi Fagre (8 kills), Izzy Puchalski (6 kills, 13/13 serving, 2 blocks), Macy Grosz (22 set assists, 8/8 serving, 1 ace, 6 digs), Madelyn Westrom ( 17 digs, 10/11 serving, 1 ace), Whitney Westrom (11/11 serving, 7 digs, 2 blocks) and Alaina Sykora (8/8 serving, 6 digs).

“This has been a magical week,” said Head Coach Missy Foslien of the lady Knights. “Thanks to our community.  We had parents step up to help and we are just happy to represent our community and our section.  I have had great outpouring of support from the section coaches and I love the fact that they really wanted us to do well down here.”
