The West Central Area Knights survived a five-set match against Pine River-Backus on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, recording a 3-2 (24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 20-18) victory.  Trailing two sets to one in their consolation semifinal contest, the West Central Area volleyball team finally got things together on the court.  With the score 11-10 in favor of the Tigers in the fourth set, the lady Knights scored the next five points to take a 15-11 lead.  PRB scored three in a row to get within one point at 15-14.  It was at that point the Knights scored four in a row, 8 of the next 9 and 10 of the last 12 points to steal the momentum and square the match at two sets apiece.  That set up a fifth set that featured multiple match point opportunities for both teams before the Knights prevailed.

Leaders for West Central Area were Mya Foslien (26 kills, 27/28 serving, 3 aces, 14 digs), Madi Fagre (15 kills, 6 digs, 4 blocks), Izzy Puchalski (8 kills, 20/21 serving, 2 aces, 11 digs), Macy Grosz (50 set assists, 19/19 serving, 2 aces, 23 digs), Madelyn Westrom (12 digs, 165/115 serving, 1 ace) and Whitney Westrom (18/19 serving, 2 aces, 13 digs).

The Tigers were led by Kassidy Bristow (20 kills, 19 digs, 4 block assists), Mimi Bueckers (18/18 serving, 1 ace, 6 digs), Alaura Dahl (10 kills, 30 set assists, 23/25 serving, 4 aces, 16 digs), and Brianna Hanneken (15 kills, 11/12 serving, 3 aces, 8 digs, 1 solo block, 3 block assists).

West Central Area will now face Ely for the Class A Consolation championship at 10:30am Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
