Knights Fall to Eagles in 5-Set Quarterfinal Match

The West Central Area Knights and New Life Academy Eagles had a back-and-forth battle in the quarterfinal round of the Class A State High School Volleyball Tournament on Thursday night with the fourth-seeded Eagles pulling out a 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 win over the fifth-seeded Knights.

 

The lady Knights were led by another big night from Mya Foslien (28 kills, 4 blocks, 21-of-22 serving, 2 aces, 17 digs).  Other stat leaders were Macy Grosz (46 set assists, 16-16 serving, 2 aces, 7 digs), Izzy Puchalski (18/18 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills), Madelyn Westrom (13/13 serving, 1 ace, 17 digs) and Whitney Westrom (19/19 serving, 1 ace, 13 digs).  Jaclynn Nelson added 6 kills and 5 blocks).

West Central Area will face Pine River-Backus in a consolation semifinal match at 1:00pm Friday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Makenna Lilly (18 Kills), Marissa Michaelis (15 kills) and Arianna Twomey (12 kills) all registered double digit kills for the Eagles, while Makenzie Anderstrom contributed 8 kills and 4 blocks.  Setter Annika Haak distributed 46 set assists.  Haak was also 30-for-31 serving with 3 aces and added 15 digs.  Rylee Dacosta led the team with 19 digs and was 13-for-15 serving with 3 aces.  Anderstrom (15-15) and Ella Brennan (10-10) were perfect on the serving line.
