Barnesville scored points in every quarter on Saturday afternoon as they recorded a decisive 48-0 semifinal round victory over Frazee in the Section 8AA football playoffs.  The win advances the Trojans to Section championship game on Friday at 5:30pm against Pelican Rapids at the Fargodome.

“The game was hard fought and I felt that Frazee is a good football team that is physical and plays every play hard,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “I was impressed with them last time we played and that didn’t change today.  It was cold and muddy and both teams just got through it. Field conditions were tough for both teams.”

Barnesville got the board with a 5 yard TD pass from Zachary Bredman to Peyton Amundson and added a 37 yard TD run by Ethan Larson as they took a 12-0 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Gannon Bolgrean got loose for a 63 yard touchdown run and then was successful on the two-point conversion try to increase the Trojans lead to 20-0.  A one yard run by Major Ness brought the halftime advantage to 26-0.

Bolgrean added a 21 yard TD run in the third quarter, followed by another successful two-point try by Larson for a 34-0 lead.  Cameron Halverson made it 42-0 with an 8 yard TD run and a two-point conversion at the end of the third quarter.

David Spillum scored the final touchdown of the day on a 60 yard run as time expired.

“The team executed well throughout the day on both sides of the ball,” noted Coach Strand.  “We held them to 47 yards on the ground and 22 through the air.  Offensively, we moved the ball very well with many backs touching it.  Gannon Bolgrean and Ethan Larson really shined on the day.”

Rushing leaders for the Trojans were Bolgrean (12 carries, 145 yards) Larson (7 carries, 85 yards).  Bredman completed 4-of-8 passes for 46 yards.  Asher O’Brien led the receivers with 2 catches for 24 yards.  Peyton Amundson had a big day defensively, with 5 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and a sack.  Levi Eickenbrack and Justin Krueger also had a sack each.  Jay Tschumperlin forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

“As a team I feel we are moving the ball well right now, through the air and on the ground,” added Strand.  “This week will be fun getting ready for a talented Pelican Rapids team.  I feel we match up well with them and it will be two very good teams going at it for the section title.”
