The M State lady Spartans prevailed in a grueling 5-set match in the Region 13B semifinals at Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Friday night, earning a 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11) victory over Minnesota North College – Mesabi Range, to advance to the Region13B championship match against Alexandria Tech on Saturday at 2:30pm.
M State had four players reach double digits in kills, led by Kendra Emery with 16. Kaleigh Sip added 13, Ariana Noplos had 11 and Kaleigh Peterson finished with 10. Faith Marion chipped in with 9 kills. Sip and Noplos each added a pair of solo blocks and a block assists, while Peterson had a solo block and a block assist. Marion also registered a solo block.
Cassie Dahl distributed 51 set assists in the match and was perfect (16/16) from the serving line. Other top servers were Emery (25/25, 1 ace), Marion (21/23, 3 aces), Madi Foss (17/17, 1 ace), Maddie Ballweg (16/17, 2 aces) and Peterson (11/13, 1 ace). Ballweg led the team with 28 digs, Emery added 15, Marion had a dozen and Foss finished with 10.
