Underwood defeated New York Mills in 5 sets on Friday night, winning 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-27, 15-11 in the Section 6A quarterfinals.  “The full gym and long rallies made for an intense and exciting tournament atmosphere,” said Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “Mills is a great team, who I have nothing but respect for.  They read the court well and are scrappy on defense.  Our girls played hard and didn't get rattled.  It was a long, emotional game, and they stuck together, played hard, and persevered.  I am very proud of them and look forward to the week ahead with them.”

The Rockets missed only one serve all night.  They were led at the service line by Mily Albjerg (21/21, 2 aces), Ezrah Baker (22/23), Kallyn Grove (19/19), Liz Lukken (17/17), Brooklyn Christtianson (17/17) and Katie Hess (12/12).

Liz Lukken had a big hitting night with 24 kills. Ezrah Baker and Kallyn Grove also recorded double digit kills with 16 and 12, respectively.  Albjerg added 8 kills and Christianson had 5.

Defensively, Lukken (29 digs), Albjerg (25 digs) and Grove (24 digs) led the way, with Christianson and Sia Olson collecting 18 digs apiece and Baker adding 16.  Hess finished with 9 digs.

No New York Mills stats were reported.

Underwood will now face Hillcrest Lutheran Academy for the North Sub-Section title when they clash in the Section 6A semifinals on Thursday at 6:00pm at the Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls.
