Owls Ride Balanced Offensive Attack to 26-14 Playoff Win Over Rothsay

The Hancock Owls featured an efficient, balanced attack on Tuesday night as they eliminated the Rothsay Tigers, 26-14, in the Section 4 9-Player quarterfinals.   Brady Luthi threw for 191 yards and a pair of TD’s and Chase Evink carried the ball 19 times for 178 yards and two TD’s.  Hancock accumulated a total of 398 yards on the night (207 rushing, 191 passing).

 

Evink scored on a 2 yard run early in the first quarter and Luthi connected with Nathan Kellenberger on a 28 yard pass late in the quarter, followed by a two-point conversion run by Evink, taking a 14-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Luthi and Kellenberger hooked up again in the third quarter on a 69 yard TD pass, increasing their lead to 20-0.  A 5 yard run by the Tigers and a successful two-point conversion run made it a 20-8 game.  Evink’s second TD, covering 10 yards, brought the score to 26-8 after three quarters.

Rothsay returned a fumble for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, putting the final at 26-14.

Kellenberger had 6 receptions for 163 yards and 2 TD’s.  Evink led the defense with 5 solo tackles and 7 assists.  Cruise Millette had 4 solo tackles and 5 assists, Rylan Meierding had 4 solo tackles and 4 assisted tackles, and Hudson Versteeg contributed 3 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and a sack.

Rothsay had 142 total yards (88 passing, 54 rushing).  No Rothsay stats were reported.
