The Lady Knights came prepared to play in Wednesday night’s Section 6A first round volleyball match versus Wheaton-Herman/Norcross. West Central Area, seeded second in the South Sub-Section, recorded a 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-9) victory over the Warriors.
Alaina Sykora started the match with a six point service run to put the Knights up 8-1. Whitney Westrom also had a huge serving run, serving nine straight and pushing the Warriors back on their heels. The score was 19-3 after her big run. The Warriors also couldn’t defend Mya Foslien’s attack on the outside, as she had seven kills in set one and was 8/8 hitting .875.
Set two was much the same, Alaina Sykora served four in a row to gain a 5-0 lead. Mya Foslien served four more later to put the Knights up 12-2. Madelyn Westrom also had a nice run of four serves, and the score was 17-4 at the end of her run. Madi Fagre had six kills in set two, while Jaclynn Nelson added two kills and two blocks.
Set three saw the Knights down 0-3 at the start of the match, but they never lost their rhythm. Alaina Sykora served once again to bring WCA back in the lead at 5-3. Macy Grosz also had a four point run at the end of the match to put the score at 23-8. The Warriors just couldn’t get any kind of momentum and the Knights ran away with set three 25-9.
Macy Grosz finished with 31 set assists, Mya Foslien was 23/24 hitting with 15 kills (kill efficiency .583). Whitney Westrom had a great game with 7 kills and Madi Fagre also played steady with 9 kills. Defensively Mya Foslien and Madelyn Westrom each had 15 digs. Sophie Sanstead came off the bench and had some great saves. Serving leaders were Whitney Westrom (16/16, 1 ace), Grosz (12/12, 1 ace), Izzy Puchalski (12/12), Sykora (13/14, 1 ace), Madelyn Westrom (11/11, 2 aces) and Foslien (9/9, 1 ace).
The Knights have earned another home match and will face a tough Parkers Prairie team on Friday at 7:00pm.
