Buccaneers Handle Ortonville in Playoff Opener

Border West led 37-0 at the half and went on to post a 53-21 playoff win over Ortonville on Tuesday night in the Section 4 9-Player quarterfinal round matchup in Wheaton.  The Buccaneers ran for 319 yards and threw for 200 more as they compiled a total of 519 yards of total offense.  They recorded 23 first downs and were 6-of-9 on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth down.

The scoring started with a 22 yard pass to Brayden Andrews from Marshall Tolifson and a successful two-point conversion run by Brody Nachbor for an 8-0 Border West lead.  Kevin Casper then caught a 17 yard pass from Tolifson, which was followed by another Nachbor two-point run, increasing the Border West lead to 16-0.  It became 24-0 on a 17 yard run by Nachbor and his third two-point conversion.

A pair of Nachbor TD runs (4, 56) and one Tucker Blume PAT kick left the Bucs with a 37-0 advantage at the half.

Holden Rinke’s 3 yard run and a two-point conversion run by Tyler Groebner increased the Bucs lead to 45-0, however, Ortonville got on the board on a 67 yard pass and added an extra-point kick, putting the score at 45-7.

Owen Deal found the end zone on a one yard run and then delivered a two-point pass to Lucas Gahlon to close out the Border West scoring early in the fourth quarter.  Ortonville recorded TD’s on a 35 yard run and a fumble return to put the final at 53-21.

Nachbor had a huge night running the football, gaining 230 yards on 16 carries.  Kevin Casper (3 catches, 49 yards) and Jude Olson (2 catches, 49 yards) were the top receivers.  Quarterback Marshall Tolifson completed 10-of-13 passes for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Rinke led the defense with 6 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles.  Jack Siegel recorded a pair of sacks and Aiden Sigler blocked a kick.  Gahlon intercepted a pass for the Bucs.

Ortonville had 172 yards passing and 91 rushing yards for a total of 263 yards of offense.

Border West will host Underwood at 2:00pm Saturday in Wheaton.
