M State Football Team Ends Season with 26-12 Loss to Central Lakes

The college football season is over for M State as they Spartans lost to Central Lakes, 26-12 on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls.  The Spartans end their season with a 4-4 record, while Central Lakes takes a 3-5 record to Rochester to face the top-seeded Yellowjackets next Sunday, October 29 in the semifinal round of the MCAC Playoffs.

 

Rashad Madden got the Spartan on the board first when he scored on a 17 yard run early in the second quarter.  A failed PAT attempt left the Spartans with a 6-0 lead.  Central Lakes responded with a 13 yard TD run by David Collins and a successful two-point conversion run by Anthony Louis Royal, as the Raiders took an 8-6 lead.  A 6 yard touchdown run by Collins increased the visitors lead to 14-6, however, M State cut the lead to 14-12 at halftime when Dylan Tatum connected with JC Johnson on a 38 yard pass with only 8 seconds remaining.

Mike Tveitbakk scored on a 5 yard run in the third quarter as Central Lakes added to their lead, making it a 20-12 advantage.  In the fourth quarter, Central Lakes blocked a punt and took possession of the ball on the M State 6 yard line.  Tveitbakk then connected with David Boyd, Jr. on a 5 yard TD pass for the final 26-12 score.

The Spartans had 183 total yards (113 rushing, 70 passing).  They were led by Madden (20 carries, 70 yards), Dylan Tatum (6 carries, 32 yards, 5 completions 13 attempts, 70 yards passing) and Johnson (3 catches, 51 yards).  Defensively, Jaden Reed had an interception, and sacks were recorded by Tyrese Essex and Antonio Diaz.

Central Lakes finished with 238 total yards (153 rushing, 85 passing).  Leaders were Royal (17 carries, 96 yards, 2 catches, 24 yards), Collins (14 carries, 40 yards), Tveitbakk (6 completions, 15 attempts, 85 yards) and Jacob Millsop (1 catch, 35 yards).
