Border West Records Road Win Over Ashby-Brandon-Evansville

The Border West Buccaneers traveled to face Ashby-Brandon-Evansville in their regular season finale on Wednesday night.  The game was tight at halftime with the Bucs holding a 16-14 advantage, however, a 16 point third quarter gave the visitors a 32-14 lead after three on the way to a 45-14 victory over the Bolts.

 

Micah Fuller put the home team ahead 6-0 with an 11 yard run early in the game, but Brody Nachbor’s 57 yard TD scamper and two-point conversion run put the Bucs on top, 8-6 after one quarter.

ABE regained the lead on an 8 yard run and two-point conversion run by Logan Haburn in the second quarter, however, Nachbor responded with his second TD, this time a 3 yard run, and another successful two-point try for 16-14 halftime lead.

Nachbor broke loose for a 53 yard TD run in the third quarter and hit Jack Siegel with a conversion pass for a 24-14 lead.  Marshall Tolifson’s 36 yard pass to Kevin Casper, followed by another Nachbor run for the conversion points lifted the Bucs lead to 32-14 at the end of the third.

Nachbor completed his huge night with a fourth TD run, covering 36 yards, and Tucker Blume’s PAT kick increased the lead to 39-14.  A one yard run by Gunner Hennessy ended the scoring.

Border West had 329 rushing yards and 87 yards passing.  Nachbor ended the night with 211 rushing yards on 15 carries, finding the end zone 4 times.  Hennessy had 76 yards on 6 attempts.  Casper led the receivers with 5 catches for 76 yards, and Tolifson was 11-for-12 throwing the football for 114 yards.  Holden Rinke and Aiden Sigler led the defensive effort with 8 and 7 tackles, respectively.

Ashby-Brandon-Evansville ran for 216 yards and threw for 113.  The Bolts were led by Haburn with 141 yards on 20 carries.  Fuller finished with 59 yards rushing and completed 10-of-21 passes for 113 yards.  Colton Breitkreutz was the leading receiver with 3 catches for 60 yards.  Defensive leaders were Solomon Wales (1 solo tackle, 8 assisted tackles, 1 QB sack), William Englund (1 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles), Jake Norby (1 solo tackle, 9 assisted tackles), Bryce Froemming (1 fumble recovery, 2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles) and Stephen Hamilton (4 assisted tackles, 1 forced fumble).  Jude Olson had an interception and a fumble recovery.

ABE received the #5 seed in Section 6A and will play at fourth-seeded Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday at 6:00pm.

Border West is seeded second in Section 4 9-Player and will host Ortonville on Tuesday night.
