Underwood Girls Win Home MEA Tournament

The Underwood volleyball team captured the Underwood MEA Tournament title on Thursday, beating Verndale 2-0 (25-19, 25-23) in the championship match.  Sebeka claimed third place with a 2-1 (23-25, 25-23, 15-2) victory over New York Mills.  Fifth place went to Wheaton/Herman-Norcross as they recorded a 2-0 (25-15, 25-22) win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, and Roseau finished seventh with a 2-0 (25-9, 25-22) win over Clinton Graceville-Beardsley.

“It was a great day of volleyball for the Rockets, finishing the day 4-0,” said Head Coach Breck Grove.  “Kallyn Grove recorded her 2,000 career set assist in the final play of the game against New York Mills.  It was fun to play well in our own gym and against good competition.  Underwood finished the season 21-6 and are looking forward to beginning playoffs next week.”

Grove finished the tournament with 61 set assists, 26 kills and 30 digs.  She was also 25-for-25 serving with 1 ace.  Other stat leaders were Mily Albjerg (33/33 serving, 2 aces, 11 kills, 25 digs), Brooklyn Christianson (27/28 serving, 13 kills, 31 digs), Ezrah Baker (30/34 serving, 18 kills, 27 digs), Liz Lukken (19/22 serving, 26 kills, 32 digs) and Katie Hess (18/19 serving, 2 aces, 21 digs).
