Lady Spartans Improve to 12-2 in MCAC South with 3 Road Wins

The M State volleyball team recorded three MCAC Southern Division victories over the weekend, beating Minnesota West 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23) on Friday night in Worthington and completing their travels with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-21) win in the first match of a Saturday double header and a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-14) win in the second match over Riverland Community College in Austin.

In the win over Minnesota West the lady Spartans featured a balanced attack with double digit kills registered by Kaleigh Sip (12), Kendra Emery (11) and Faith Marion (11).  Kaleigh Peterson and Ariana Noplos added 9 and 7 kills, respectively.  Cassie Dahl distributed 46 set assists and Noplos had 3 solo blocks and 1 block assist.  Peterson had 3 block assists and Dahl had one solo block and 2 block assists.

The defensive effort was led by Marion with 19 digs and libero Maddie Ballweg with 18 digs.  Emery chipped in with 8 digs, while Dahl and Madi Foss each had 5.  Top servers were Marion (16/17, 2 aces), Foss (12/12), Ballweg (12/13), Emery (15/16, 1 ace) and Dahl (18/20, 3 aces).

In the first Riverland match M State was led by Mariion (13 kills, 8 digs, 5/6 serving), Peterson (7 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists), Noplos (6 kills, 1 solo block, 1 block assist), Emery (6 kills, 7 digs, 9/11 serving, 2 aces), Ballweg (14 digs, 11/12), Dahl (9/10 serving, 34 assists) and Foss (18/20 serving, 4 aces).

In the second Riverland match leaders for the lady Spartans were Sip (11 kills), Emery (9 kills, 20/20 serving, 5 aces), Marion (7 kills, 12/12 serving, 3 aces, 7 digs), Noplos (7 kills), Peterson (5 kills), Dahl (23 set assists, 8/9 serving 1 ace, 5 digs), Ballweg (10/11 serving, 4 aces, 8 digs) and Foss (13/15, 1 ace).  This match was originally on the schedule for Saturday, October 21 at M State, but was rescheduled to be played as a part of the double header in Austin.

The Spartans (14-13, 12-2 MCAC South) will play their final regular season match on Friday night against Ridgewater College at M State.
