The Perham Yellowjackets handed Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta a 21-6 loss at Big Cat Stadium on the campus of UM-Morris Friday night. Both teams went to 4-3 overall with the outcome.
Perham had 265 yards of offense, 160 rushing and 105 passing. Morris Area had a total of 203 (113 rushing 90 passing) yards.
Perham got on the board on the third play of the night when Hudson Hackel broke loose for a 59 yard TD run and then added the extra point kick for a 7-0 lead.
Drew Huebner’s 7 yard run with 8:32 left in the first half cut the lead to 7-6. Perham blocked the extra point. On the ensuing kick-off Mason Happel raced 91 yards for the second Perham touchdown. Hackel’s PAT kick made it 14-6.
Perham added an insurance score five seconds into the fourth quarter when Blaiz Schmidt scored on a 2-yard run and Hackel again tacked on the point after. The TD capped a 13-play, 83 yard drive that saw the Yellowjackets possess the ball for 7:51 at the end of the third quarter and into the fourth.
Hudson Hackel led Perham with 115 yards on 18 carries. Schmidt completed 6-of-11 passes for 105 yards and Gage Aanenson caught 3 passes for 71 yards to lead the receivers. Leading tacklers were Hudson Hackel (4 solo, 4 assists), Dylan Ralston (5 solo, 2 assists, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack) and Gavin Griffin (4 solo, 3 assists, 1 interception). Jaxon Vetch blocked an extra point attempt.
Owen Anderson ran the ball 14 times for 87 yards to lead the Tigers and Huebner completed 7-of-18 passes for 90 yards. Riley Asmus (3 receptions, 42 yards) and Andrew Marty (3 receptions, 33 yards) were the top receivers for Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta.
Perham will travel to play Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Wednesday, while Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta entertains Fergus Falls.
