Minnesota North-Mesabi Range overcame a 28-13 third quarter deficit by scoring 21 unanswered fourth quarter points on the way to a 34-28 victory over M State on Saturday afternoon, spoiling homecoming for the Spartans and their fans.  The three fourth quarter scores were setup by Spartan turnovers on three consecutive possessions.

The Norse scored the only touchdown of the first quarter on a 67 yard pass from Jonathan Mosley to Emmanuel Allen, Jr.  The extra-point kick by Kyle Attard gave the visitors a 7-0 lead.

A 9 yard run by Rashad Madden, followed by a Jaydon Manteufel PAT kick tied the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter.  Quarterback Dylan Tatum, playing in place of the injured KJ Cooper, connected with Marquan Tucker for a 92-yard TD pass and Manteufel added the point after for a 14-7 Spartan lead.  Mesabi Range cut the halftime lead to 14-13 with a Moseley 10 yard TD pass to July Abernathey.

The Spartans increased their lead to 28-13 with a pair of 10 yard third quarter TD runs by Maddon and two more Manteufel PAT kicks.

The fourth quarter was disastrous for M State.  An interception by Mesabi Range led to a one yard TD run by Mosley and a fumble recovery by the Norse led to a second one yard score by Mosley.  The final touchdown came after another fumble recovery with Cameron Goode scoring on a 26 yard run and Allen, Jr. hauling in the two-point conversion pass from Mosley.

M State had 286 yards of total offense (117 passing, 169 rushing).

Madden ran for 129 yards on 18 carries, reaching the end zone 3 times.  Tatum had 35 rushing yards on 6 attempts and completed 4-of-15 passes for 117 yards.  Nafis Smith caught 2 passes for 19 yards.  Sam Tagg and Keondre Hodges each recorded a sack and Kamm Blackmon had an interception.  Joshuah Gonleh (2 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles), Antron Williams (3 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles) and Tagg (3 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles) led the tackle chart.

The Norse were led by Mosley (10 completions, 21 attempts, 141 passing yards, 13 carries, 77 rushing yards), Allen, Jr. (4 receptions, 87 yards, 1TD) and Goode (14 carries, 53 yards).

M State (3-3) will host Minnesota West at 2:30pm Saturday in the final regular season game.

Mesabi Range, NDSCS and Rochester are all tied for first place in the MCAC South with records of 4-1.
