Defense Dominates as Knights Defeat Braves on WCA Homecoming Night

The West Central Area defense made 14 tackles for loss in their homecoming win on Friday night as the defense shut down the Benson running attack for three quarters. WCA posted a 36-21 victory over the Braves. Sam Hanson led the Knights with 140 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.  He also had 8 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Jaden McCarter broke loose for an 84 yard punt return for a touchdown early in the first quarter and the extra point kick by Antoni Greniewicz gave the Braves a 7-0 lead.  The Knights responded with an 8-play, 55-yard scoring drive culminating in an 11 yard TD run by quarterback Brady Lindquist and a two-point conversion pass from Lindquist to Cam Anderson, giving the Knights an 8-7 lead.

Lindquist and Hanson scored second quarter touchdowns on runs of 3 and 5 yards, respectively.  Hanson had a successful two-point conversion run after Lindquist’s TD and the Knights had a 22-7 halftime lead.

West Central Area extended their lead with a 10-play, 53-yard drive which resulted in a 21 yard TD run by Hanson to make it 28-7 with just over 3 minutes left in the third quarter.

Benson cut the lead to 28-13 at 8:33 of the fourth on a one yard run by Mason Moe, however, with just over two minutes to play WCA scored again as Lindquist connected with tight end Ben Bye on a 14 yard TD pass.  Hanson hauled in the two-point conversion pass for a 36-13 lead.  The Braves got the last touchdown of the night when McCarter went 21 yards for the TD and John Kobberman ran the ball in for the two-point conversion and a final of 36-21.

West Central Area finished the night with 273 (206 rushing, 67 passing) yards.  Lindquist had 13 rushed for 37 yards and completed 6-of-18 passes.  Bye was the top receiver with3 catches for 48 yards.

Benson had 122 yards on the ground and just 11 passing yards on the night.  McCarterhad 49 yards on 19 carries, Moe 44 yards on 11 carries and Darin Hippe 42 yards on 5 carries.

West Central Area (3-3) will go to Browerville to face Browerville-Eagle Valle on Friday night, while Benson has a home game against Upsala/Swanville Area.
